Description
A cylindrical lithium-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery that has a cylindrical shape. These batteries consist of a cylindrical metal casing that houses the internal components, including the positive and negative electrodes, separator, and electrolyte. The most common type of cylindrical lithium-ion battery is the 18650 cell, named for its dimensions: 18 millimeters in diameter and 65 millimeters in length.

Cylindrical cell: The world's earliest cylindrical lithium battery is invented by Japan SONY company in 1992 18650 lithium battery, because the invention has a long history, so the market penetration rate is very high, now there is a very mature production technology can ensure mass production and reduce the price, but a single capacity is small, is not suitable for large-capacity lithium battery design.
Prismatic cell: The shell is designed with the same steel shell or aluminum shell as the cylindrical cell, which has the advantage of being easy to pack, which is a compromise in the current market, because the manufacturing difficulty is not high, and the degree of automation is higher than that of the pouch cell, and it is easy to produce on a large scale to reduce the cost of industrial manufacturing and is favored by the market.
Pouch cell: The shell is encapsulated by an aluminum-plastic composite film, which has the characteristics of flexible, flat and bag-like design. This is the safest and highest energy density lithium battery to date. Pouch cells can be molded into a variety of shapes, making them highly adaptable to irregular spaces and unconventional designs.
The internal electrochemical principles of these three battery routes are the same, and the material composition is basically the same, but the packaging form and shape characteristics of the batteries are different, and the appropriate battery cells need to be selected according to the products of the final application.
